Botcherby street cleaner's job 'too dangerous'
A cleaner and lone worker in Botcherby has been stopped from doing his round because the estate he worked on was deemed "too dangerous".According to Carlisle City Council, the last cleaner - who was also in need of a Loneworker Solution - quit after being assaulted three times in a single year.
Speaking to the News & Star, Angela Culleton, the assistant director for the local environment at the council, said: "The previous barrowman was assaulted three times in 2007 and would no longer work in the area and left his job.
"The risk assessment states that staff working in a high-risk environment should not work alone.
"Due to the risk of assault we could no longer consider providing a lone worker for the estate."
Other areas still have lone street workers, including Currock, Harraby, Brampton and Carlisle city centre.
CST has a number of Loneworker Solution - including the Bosch Personal Security Mobile, which doubles as a DECT phone.
