Expert advice on improving hotels
Hoteliers have been given advice on a television programme on how to make the most of their establishments. In her show The Hotel Inspector on Five, Alex Polizzi's most recent subject was Joseph Louei, who owns the Astor Hotel in Plymouth.
Paul Connolly of the Daily Mail reviewed the programme, in which Ms Polizzi made Mr Louei sharpen up his business.
Guests paid £400 a night for suites but carpets were stained and hairs were found in the baths.
He had been getting poor reviews on the website Tripadviser, and Mr Connolly reported that at the time of going to press, this was still the case, even after the programme.
The reviewer also expressed disapproval of Mr Louei's interior design, calling the bridal suits "what an eight-year-old might design for a dolly wedding".
Hotel communication systems are another way in which struggling hoteliers might upgrade their institutions.
Call Systems Technology's range includes Genesis, a messaging service based on the Windows system.
It allows people to be contacted quickly by pager, radio and phone and can be used for emergency evacuations or other types of alerts.
