London hotels 'on road to recovery'
The hotel sector in London is "firmly" on the road to recovery following the recent economic downturn and recession.According to new research by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services, hoteliers in the capital have been celebrating a sharp upturn in trade during the first half of this year.
Occupancy rates between January and June jumped by 2.3 per cent year-on-year, while the average room rate soared by 7.1 per cent.
Robert Barnard, partner for hotel consultancy services at PKF, said: "The figures for London over the first half of this year suggest the capital is firmly into its recovery stage which is positive.
He said that while the picture in the provinces was less positive, there was a lower performance expectation, with hoteliers expecting "a slow recovery".
"So far the figures are in line with this and therefore I think hoteliers can feel relatively positive," he added.
Hotels which want to boost revenue by improving customer service could invest in better internal communications technology - such as CST's WaiterCall system.
