What are the options with two-way radios?

If you work in a business where your staff need to keep in contact with one another over large distances then you may find two-way radios are of use.

Here at CST, we offer a range of options when it comes to two-way radios, each designed to suit various environments.

We are an authorised reseller of Kenwood two-way communication systems, allowing us to offer you high-quality two-way radios that you can trust.

From small, handheld devices, to larger mobile two-way communication units, we can provide you with a two-way radio system that you can rely on.

Two-way radios can be useful in a host of industries, from construction and manufacturing to taxi drivers and hospitality.

Whatever your needs, CST will have a two-way radio system to suit you.

Two-way radios - what to consider

When you decide to buy a two-way radio communication system, there are certain things that you need to think about.

Firstly, the range over which you will be using your two-way radios is a consideration.

All of our two-way radios can be operated over at least 128 channels, which means that you should not need to worry about staff losing contact with you while using the devices; however, if you require a range of greater than five kilometres, you may need to choose a licensed radio system.

You will also need to think about the environment in which your two-way radios will be used.

If your staff are constantly on the move and work in physical environment, such as a building site, you will want portable two-way radios that can be easily clipped to a belt or stored in a pocket when not in use.

The two-way radios you choose should also be durable so that they can stand up to daily use and potentially rough treatment.

Battery life is also an important consideration when buying two-way radios.

You not only need your two-way radios to last for extended periods of time, but you should also be clearly alerted when the battery in your radio is dying.

Our range of Kenwood two-way radios offers a choice of Ni-MH or Li-Ion battery packs and every model features a clear battery life indicator.

Licensed or non-licensed two-way radios?

One of the key decisions you have to make about your two-way radios is whether they are licensed or non-licensed.

Non-licensed radios can be used anywhere in Europe and you are not required to purchase a license for their use.

There are certain conditions attached to non-licensed two-way radios, including a maximum of 0.5 watts of power and an upper range of five kilometres.

If you require two-way radios that operate over a greater distance, then you will need to opt for licensed two-way radios.

These can provide up to five watts of power and have a much greater range than non-licensed two-way radios.

Obtaining a license for your business' two-way radio system is a relatively straightforward process.

In the UK, business users of licensed two-way radios need to apply through Ofcom and pay the appropriate fee before they can begin using their two-way radio system.

If you choose a licensed two-way radio system it is vital that you apply for - and receive - your license from Ofcom before you begin using your radios as failure to do so can lead to heavy financial penalties and, in some cases, a prison sentence.

The team here at CST will be happy to assist you with your purchase of two-way radios and can advise you about the benefits of each system in relation to your business.
