Michelin-starred pub restaurant, the Sportsman has been named the UK’s best restaurant in the 2016 National Restaurant Awards. Located in Seasalter, Kent, the Sportsman has held a Michelin star since 2008 and is dedicated to serving good food in relaxed and informal surroundings. Dishes at the Sportsman stem from its surrounding area including fresh fish and oysters from the Thames Estuary as well as meat and vegetables from the surrounding woods.
Taken from the votes of 150 industry experts, including chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and critics, the top 100 is an annual list of the best restaurants across the UK. The awards aim to recognise the UK’s vibrant eating out scene from tapas bars to steakhouses and from gastro pubs to fine dining.

Other notable restaurants throughout the top 100 include London restaurant Piquet in seventh place who was awarded Highest New Entry after only opening last year. While Ambleside restaurant, Lake Road Kitchen, was awarded Highest Climber after climbing 70 places from last years’ awards. The full list can be seen below.
